The School of Journalism and Mass Communication is accepting nominations for the 2025 Outstanding Achievement in Writing Award. The purpose of the award is to recognize high-quality writing by students in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication and to encourage and showcase such work.

Marshawn Gunn, SJMC December 2024 graduate, came to UIowa as a transfer student unsure of what he wanted to do. After taking newscast reporting classes, he realized his passion for telling the stories of everyday Iowans.

During her time as a student in the UI SJMC Brandee Britt discovered her love for multimedia storytelling and sports and thanks to her classes and internship in the Department of Intercollegiate athletics, she is living her dream of working in sports media.
