Six SJMC faculty were promoted last year. Brian Ekdale and Tom Oates were promoted to full professor. Joanna Krajewski, Lillian Martell, Charles Munro and Kevin Ripka were promoted to associate professor of instruction.

Prof. Ekdale teaches undergraduate courses on video production and multimedia storytelling and graduate courses on digital media. His research focus on digital cultures and global media.

Prof. Oates is the Director of Graduate Studies in SJMC and holds a joint appointment in the Department of American Studies. His teaching and research are in sport media and culture.

Prof. Krajewski is the Director of the Master’s in Strategic Communication (MASC) program.

Prof. Martell is the Reporting and Writing Track Coordinator. She teaches undergraduate courses in reporting, writing, and editing.

Prof. Munro teaches broadcast and business of media courses and serves as the Daily Iowan TV coach.

Prof. Ripka is the Multimedia Production and Design Track Coordinator. He teaches undergraduate courses in graphic design, web design, photography, and branding.
