Last fall, PhD student Tammy Walkner was selected as one of only 25 PhD students selected worldwide to participate in the Journal of Mass Communication Quarterly's (JMCQ) Doctoral Student Reviewer Trainee Program.

The Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC) is a nonprofit, educational association of journalism and mass communication educators, students and media professionals. Journalism & Mass Communication Quarterly (JMCQ) is the flagship journal of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC).

AEJMC described the program as a highly successful program for the selected students worldwide. The Reviewer Trainee Program lasts two semesters. During Tammy's training, she was assigned to a mentor, Dr. Lana Rakow, a Professor Emerita at University of North Dakota. Tammy reviewed one manuscript during each semester. Tammy's reviews were high enough quality that Dr. Rakow included each review she did and submitted it to the author.

When offered our congratulations, Tammy said, "Thank you! This is an accomplishment that I am very proud of. Being one of 25 selected out of a potential pool of hundreds of graduate students is pretty cool!"
