Professor Sang Jung Kim, Ph.D. candidate Queenie Zhou, and Ph.D. alum Lei Chen (2025) recently collaborated on a research article, titled, “’You Are Not Fat’: The Postfeminist Contradiction in #RejectBodyAnxiety—A Computationally Assisted Critical Thematic Analysis."

"In this work, we conceptualize body positivity as ‘ideal positivity’—a postfeminist discourse that refines hegemonic beauty ideals by shedding their extreme traits (selective subversion) and making them appear attainable (tactical conformity), thereby transforming them into seemingly positive forms,” said Kim over email. “I am especially proud that graduate students led this mixed-method research on social media."
