2025 Hall of Fame inductees Tim Vos and Isaiah Scales 

Isaiah Scales and Tim Vos have been inducted into the Iowa School of Journalism and Mass Communication Hall of Fame during the 2025 ceremony. They join over 80 inductees starting from 1948 who were selected for this honor based on their significant contributions to the profession, academy and school.

Isaiah Scales has worked in television for notable media companies for over 20 years. He began his career as an intern for Fox Sports’ The Best Damn Sports Show Period, and later assistant directed live shows such as American Idol. Scales now oversees a team of content producers as the marketing post-producing manager for The Walt Disney Company’s television and streaming platforms.

Scales is known for bringing positive energy and creativity to all his endeavors, professional or otherwise. He works as a motivational speaker for grade schools, colleges and local communities, and as a mentor for Compton Goes to College and Lebron James’ I Promise school.

Isaiah speech

As a proud Hawkeye, Scales serves as President of the Los Angeles Iowa Alumni Club and is co-executive producing the upcoming feature film The Iowa Wave. He is also a member of the University of Iowa School of Journalism and Mass Communication Professional Advisory Board, where he is an enthusiastic mentor to Iowa SJMC students.

Tim P. Vos is an accomplished academic in journalism and media studies. He serves as the director and a professor for the School of Journalism at Michigan State University and founded their Center for Journalism Studies. 

He has previously been on faculty at Seton Hall University and the University of Missouri School of Journalism. He has advised several dozen theses and dissertations over his career.

Tim speech

Vos served as President of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication in 2020-21. He also won the University of Missouri’s Graduate Mentorship Award in 2019.

Vos was elected an International Communication Association (ICA) Fellow in 2023 based on his lasting contributions to the field of communication. He has published over 80 journal articles, book chapters and encyclopedia entries examining the roles of journalism, media history, media sociology and gatekeeping theory. Vos is co-author, co-editor, or editor of multiple books, including the International Encyclopedia of Journalism Studies and Journalism in Perspective from the University of Missouri Press, and The Social Roles of Journalism, forthcoming from Polity Press.
