On a three-day trip, 11 School of Journalism and Mass Communication students traveled to Washington D.C. with faculty member Brett Johnson to learn more about journalism and the First Amendment.

John Kamp DC Trip

School of Journalism and Mass Communication alum John Kamp sponsored 11 students on a three-day trip to Washington D.C. during  the Spring 202 4Spring Break. The trip was organized and led by Brett Johnson, SJMC visiting associate professor. Students received a hands on experience to learn more about First Amendment law and media. Johnson organized visits to the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press office,  dinner at the National Press Club with SJMC alumni, a meeting with Federal Communications Commission lawyers. Students met with former students of Johnson Monica Dunn, who is a fellow at NBC and Molly Olmstead, a writer for Slate Magazine. The trip t allowed students to envision future careers post-graduation, while also leaving some room to explore downtown D.C.!
