University of Iowa School of Journalism and Mass Communication Ph.D. candidates Mir Ashfaquzzaman and Patrick Johnson have been selected for 2023 Outstanding Teaching Assistant Awards by the Council on Teaching

Ph.D. candidates Mir Ashfaquzzaman and Patrick Johnson have been selected for 2023 Outstanding Teaching Assistant Awards by the Council on Teaching. The Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award recognizes teaching assistants who have demonstrated outstanding abilities at the University of Iowa. The Office of the Provost has authorized the Council on Teaching to give up to 30 awards each year.

"It's an honor to be selected for the 2023 Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award by the Council on Teaching. I have always been passionate about teaching, and it feels good to be recognized for what you care so deeply about. This award will inspire me to work harder and be a better teacher in the days to come," said Ashfaquazzaman.

Ashfaquazzaman has taught Journalistic Reporting and Writing as a Graduate Teaching Assistant and Social Media Marketing as the Instructor of Record.

“Teaching is where my heart is. I am so thankful for the support of the School and honored to be recognized for my passion for teaching," said Johnson.

Johnson has taught Reporting and Writing, Freedom of Expression, and Social Media for Social Change.

Awardees receive $1,000 and will be presented with a certificate at the Outstanding Teaching Assistant Awards Reception to be held on May 2, 2023.
