AI Fluency Magazines

In the newly developed course "AI and Media" by Assistant Professor Sang Jung Kim, students created AI fluency magazines for media industry professionals, including journalists, educators, and strategic communication practitioners (advertising, PR, and marketing). Students felt they should not only learn about the risks of AI in these industries, but also understand how industries are leveraging these tools and what the real consequences of their use are in each field. They researched which tools are most commonly used in each industry, as well as the associated security concerns, ease of use, and availability of tutorials and resources to help other students explore industry-specific AI tools. Students also created projects using AI tools to demonstrate both the limitations and opportunities of these technologies.

One student noted that the course gave them confidence that their understanding of emerging AI technologies would help them stand out in future job applications.

“AI and Media” will be available this Fall as a stand alone course (JMC:3162) and is an elective for the AI Certificate.

AI in Strategic Communication

AI is shifting the way that professional communicators look at audiences, craft messages, and distribute to their publics.

AI and Journalism

This magazine aims to provide journalism students with an overview of current trends in the use of artificial intelligence within the journalism industry.

AI and Education

AI can support learning when used appropriately. Education must adapt to keep students engaged while using AI as a tool rather than a substitute.
