Student Organizations
Students in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication participate in many student groups, including local chapters of national organizations. UI student organizations are open to all students.
Public Relations Student Society of America
The Iowa Chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) is a pre-professional organization for University of Iowa students interested in strategic communications fields. PRSSA is a national organization aimed at developing future PR professionals. There are more than 10,000 members in over 300 chapters throughout the nation.
Fools Magazine
Fools Magazine is a semiannual print magazine founded by UI alum Mary Mathis in 2016. The Iowa City-based publication focuses on literature, food, and culture, and is a collaborative effort with many creatives. Learn more about submitting work to Fools Magazine.
Zealous
Zealous is an editorial magazine dedicated to making an impact through art, fashion, storytelling, photography, and all forms of creativity. Zealous strives to provide an inclusive creative outlet for students looking to get hands-on experience in the magazine and media industry. Journalists, photographers, graphic designers, artists, copy-editors, and anyone eager to make a difference in the world are encouraged to contribute to Zealous.
Online News Association
The Online News Association (ONA) is the world's largest association of digital journalists. The group focuses on interactive and emerging media for journalists, non-fiction storytellers, and information designers.
Kappa Tau Alpha
Kappa Tau Alpha is a college honor society that recognizes academic excellence and promotes scholarship in journalism and mass communication. Only JMC majors are eligible for induction into the honor society.
National Association of Black Journalists - Unity Chapter
The National Association of Black Journalists (Unity Chapter) is an affiliate chapter of the national NABJ organization. Students produce a publication, NURU, several times per year.
Hawkeye Nonprofit Collective
The Hawkeye Nonprofit Collective (HNC) is a student organization comprised of passionate students dedicated to making a meaningful impact in the world. They accomplish this goal through connections with nonprofit professionals and by offering the ChangeMakers Impact Initiative. HNC is a Collegiate Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP)
