Center for Publics, Platforms & Personalization (CP3)
The Center for Publics, Platforms & Personalization led by Associate Professor Brian Ekdale is an interdisciplinary research group dedicated to studying the relationship between personalization algorithms and society. The group conducts research on (1) search personalization, (2) media and cultural studies, (3) radicalization, and (4) foreign influence campaigns. The latter two research projects are funded by the Minerva Research Initiative.
Our History
CP3 was formed in 2015 as an interdisciplinary reading group based at the University of Iowa’s Obermann Center for Advanced Studies. Over time, CP3 has evolved into a research group committed to true interdisciplinarity, guided by the belief that our work is strengthened by incorporating insights, theories, and methodologies from a variety of academic disciplines.
