Description
The Coralville Media Collaborative connects SJMC students with organizations and small businesses in the community through a paid internship program with the ultimate goal of helping non-profits tell their most important stories.
Values of the Coralville Media Collaborative
- Co-creation. We shape the project collaboratively to meet goals defined by the community while building student skills.
- Sustainability. We build long-term relationships that don’t begin and end on a semester schedule.
- Inclusivity. We work toward civic engagement, equity, and empowerment for all members of the community, particularly those most often most marginalized. Examples include making sure materials are translated, collaborating with organizations that work with immigrant and refugee groups, including community members in decision making.
- Asset-Based. We focus on community strengths in developing our work.
- Commitment. We consider our partnership with the community in department decision making. Examples could include buying food for department events from local businesses, department fundraisers or volunteering for local nonprofits, etc.
