Keith Sanders, Professor Emeritus, School of Journalism, University of Missouri.

Journalism educator and scholar for more than 45 years, including more than 40 years at the internationally renowned School of Journalism at the University of Missouri, where he taught graduate student seminars in research methods, mass communication theory and mass media and society and served as dissertation adviser for 35 Doctors of Philosophy. Author/co-author of more than 60 academic publications, Dr. Sanders served 25 years as executive director of Kappa Tau Alpha, the national college honor society for journalism and mass communication students. 

Education: Ph.D. University of Iowa (Mass Communication), M.S. Ohio University (Journalism), B.S. Bowling Green State University (Journalism).

Research Interests: mass communication effects, audience analysis, attitude measurement, election campaigns, gatekeepers, news media evaluation.

At the University of Missouri, administrative positions included chairman of the Editorial Department and interim associate dean of graduate studies and research.

Service: 

National Positions:  Elected AEJMC Standing Committee on Research, associate editor Mass Comm Review (which was renamed Mass Comm & Society in 1958) and editorial board member for 25 years; editorial board of Journalism Monographs; research chair of Mass Comm and Society Division; treasurer of the International Society for the Scientific Study of Subjectivity; executive director of Kappa Tau Alpha.

Campus Service, University of Missouri‑Columbia: Faculty Council (Executive Committee); University Research Council; Graduate Faculty Senate (Executive Committee); Intercollegiate Athletic Committee.

School of Journalism: Promotion & Tenure Committee chairman; Policy Committee Chairman; and numerous other standing committees. Advisor for 33 Ph.D. dissertations and 45 M.A. theses.

Publications: Author/co-author of more than 60 scholarly journal articles, academic convention papers, presentations and book chapters in publications such as Journalism & Mass Communication Quarterly, Newspaper Research Journal, Journalism and Mass Communication Educator, Mass Comm Review, Journal of Broadcasting, Convergence, Ecquid Novi, Operant Subjectivity, Electronic Journal of Communication, and ANPA News Research Bulletin.

Honors: AEJMC Presidential Award for Distinguished Service to Journalism and Mass Communication 2008; Who's Who in America (beginning with 50th edition, 1996) and Who’s Who in the World; Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award 2017 by the Who’s Who Publication Board; Trayes Professor of the Year, Mass Comm & Society Division, AEJMC, 1987; Faculty‑Alumni Award for Outstanding Achievement, University of Missouri Alumni Association, 1986; Named O.O. McIntyre Distinguished Professor, University of Missouri, 1993; Kappa Tau Alpha’s Outstanding Service Award was named for Keith P. Sanders on the occasion of the 100th birthday of the honor society (March 10, 2010).
