Baker was selected as one of the Journalism School’s Professional in Residence (PIR) participants, a program that invites a number of visitors from the field to speak with students. These professionals explain their experience at SJMC and how they took the skills they learned in the classroom and applied them to their career.

This program allows students to communicate directly with professionals in the field and ask questions about how SJMC prepared them for their experiences. Jensen said that while she was at the university, she felt it was important to get involved and volunteer with different programs.

Directly after graduation, Jensen accepted a position with global public relations firm Weber Shandwick. As a student, Jensen was always interested in advocating on the behalf of youth, and said this is what encouraged her to attend law school and become a Guardian Ad Litem. Jensen explained that in her role as GAL, she is appointed by the court to represent the best interest of a child.

After her presentation, Jensen encouraged any student to reach out if they are interested in a similar career. Click here to connect with Alison on LinkedIn. For more information on past or future visiting professionals, visit our website here.
